Olive Picking
Olive picking can take place anytime between the beginning of October and the end of November.
The olive picking is done every day unless there is heavy rain. Once we have started to pick the olives we need to carry on until we have 17 full crates. A time will be booked at the olive mill for our pressing and we need to have picked the correct weight in order to get our slot for our single estate olive oil.
It is hard to know exactly when the date to pick will be since the olives ripen at different times each year.
It is physical work. Nets have to be laid and gathered. Ladders and trees need to be climbed. Olives are raked or picked by hand. Crates are carried . Suckers need to be cut from the base of the trees.
It is beautiful. It is tranquil. The olive field overlooks a lake and is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees and looks up to a medieval village Civitella.
The food is delicious. The landscape stunning. The closest towns Orvieto and Todi have the most stupendous architecture and fabulous restaurants and shops.
Working holidays can be arranged. Accommodation is available in the village or at the local agriturismo.
The closest airports are Perugia and Rome.
